Raleigh photographer J is working to produce a picture directory for Duraleigh Presbyterian Church. A picture directory is an annual event photographing all the church members for the directory. New members are always welcome and will be photographed by J. It is a great opportunity to meet and know new members of the church. The directory is expected to be ready by the end of March.

Saturday, February 27th, 2010Raleigh photographer J joined a PPNC convention at the Sheraton Imperial Durham NC today. He has been waiting for the convention for a whole year. He first joined it last year and he learned so much of photography. He also really enjoyed meeting new people and new photographers. NC photographers from cities of NC came over to participate the PPNC convention. It was very exciting to meet that many of NC photographers.
During lunch break, Raleigh photographer J went out to meet a potential client at the Brier Creek Shopping Center. The bride-to-be was very kind and nice. She came to meet me with her mother. It was blessing for me to meet such nice people. J could sense their nice personality. As usual, J offered a great to them. It is exciting to book them for her wedding day.
In the evening, J had a family portrait photography with one of his church members. The family of three came over to J’s studio around 6 p.m. to be photographed for their session. They enjoyed the photography session.

All the following three webmasters require verifications by uploading a file or copying a META tag in your site’s home page.
1-1 Webmaster of Google
- Google has a Webmaster central that is a Webmaster tool. One can add 1,000 sites to monitor. Verification is required to use Webmaster tool by adding a file or a Meta tag to your site’s home page. By clicking an added site, one can start to get Crawler access information (how long ago Google crawled on your website). In “Your site on the web” menu, one can learn about top search queries, links, keywords, and internal links. J believes keywords can be helpful to determine how your website perform on each keywords relevant to your market and business. J Kim Photography’s top three keywords are photography, raleigh, and wedding. This results gave J an idea he needs to focus on keywords for “photographer and photographers” and geographically “NC or North Carolina.”
1-2 Bing Webmaster Center has menus of summary, profile, crawl issues, backlinks, outbound links, keywords, and sitemaps. J Kim Photography has 48 backlinks that is believed to be moderately healthy as a small website. J liked the keywords menu of the Webmaster Center. Keywords menu shows how your site performs with specific keywords. For “raleigh photographers”, five webpages are relevant. For “NC photographer”, only one page is relevant.

According to searchengineland.com, all search engines (Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft) have grown over 2008 and 2009 based on Comscore, Nielsen, Complete, and Hitwise that are major rating service companies. Globally Google has 81.09%, Yahoo 10.45%, MSN 3.03%, AOL 2% (Net Application data from buildtelligence.com; not sure when these data were collected). Statowl.com’s data are more relevant because it has date information (of latest six months of August 2009 – Jan 2010). Google has 85.34%, Yahoo 6.13%, Bing 5.03%, and AOL 2.41%. Based on these number, it is wise to invest Google adwords to reach most potential clients and traffics.
Referrals are critical for decision making. This makes MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn more attractive in Today’s environment.
How do you know if you are penalized by Google or not?
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010How do you know if you are penalized by Google or not? Use all search engines to find your domain listing.
Raleigh photographer J learned it by experience that one will lose its own domain list on Google organic search results.
Google search: For example, J googled search terms of Raleigh + photographer, www.jkimphotography.com was displayed on the second page results. However, currently the domain www.jkimphotography.com was not shown in any Google results.
“Raleigh photographer” 329 Google results, J’s domain was not found.
“Raleigh photographers” 208 results, still not found
Raleigh photographers with 436 results, still not found
Yahoo search:
“Raleigh photographer” 85th position for www.jkimphotography.com
“Raleigh photographers” not found in about 250 results, not found
Therefore, it is interesting that J finds www.jkimphotography.com in Yahoo search results, but not in Google. With Bing, the domain came up in around 200th.

Yahoo Marketing Solutions has a tool with dashboard, campaigns, reports, and administration menus. One can create campaign with specific bid amounts and keywords. A default Ad Group name is AdGroup 001 that was a choice for J (. Kim Photography of course you can change the campaign name later). J does not believe he needs more than one campaign. In the Campaigns menu, one can edit his ad. The ad display can be edited for title, short disruption, display url, and destination url. J’s ad title for this campaign is “J Kim Wedding Photography”.

A site command for search engines (Bing, Yahoo, and Google)
Saturday, February 13th, 2010A site command is used to determine how many pages of their site are listed in the search index.
For example, type “site:www.jkimphotography.com” in search boxes.
When J used the site command at Bing, Yahoo, and Google, the number of indexed lists were different. Very interesting!
Bing 22 results
Yahoo 74 results
Google 187 results
J cannot understand why the numbers are not identical. He assumes that Google may be better than the other two search engines in respect to how extensively these search engines index websites.
What about Google’s link command?
According to some websites, the link command is limited, and the results do no show entire links to your site. It is better to use “site to www.jkimphotography.com”
For Yahoo, you can use “linkdomain:www.jkimphotography.com”.
SEO and Google PageRank
Friday, February 12th, 2010Raleigh photographer J works on his Google search engine optimization and he also works on his Google Adwords. J is researching on how to find out that his website is banned, blacklisted or penalized. Lots of information is available for those topics, but none of them is straightforward and easy to understand. It is a black box to J. Basically some say that it takes a while for your website to be penalized and often it is not clear what caused your site to be penalized. However, Google has guidelines what may cause penalties. If one visits Google Webmaster Central, he can find Search Engine Optimization (SEO) guidelines from Google. Google says no hidden texts, no cloaking, no automated queries, no irrelevant keywords, no duplicated information, and no malware.
When J typed in “Raleigh photographers”, his domain www.jkimphotography.com came up at the second page of Google organic search results. J was proud of that. However, he cannot now find his domain nowhere out of 700 organic search results in Google. Very interesting. J is not sure the exact reasons for it. J is not an expert on SEO, so he decided to let it go. It would be very interesting to run a business completely without Google. Well, that is not true. J’s Adwords, paid search results, for J. Kim Photography is showing up at the first page. This means that J needs to spends more of his money on advertisement.
