J photographed an event last night for the Hunan Delegation Welcome Banquet. It was a big event held at the 35 Chinese Restaurant (1135 Kildaire Farm Rd, Cary NC 27511). It was a nicely decorated restaurant with many Chinese-style or authentic Chinese crafts. Food was great. J gave five stars for the excellent food and nice atmosphere.

Wilson had many nice houses when J drove by. Those houses on Nash st. (58) to North looked very beautiful. According to Wiki, it is the 7th largest city in NC. The city of Wilson is named for Louis Dicken Wilson (1789–1847).
Black Mountain NC
May 27th, 2010Among 30 or so restaurants in Black Mountain, NC, J chose to go Thai Basil for his dinner. On the way to the restaurant, he took more pictures of other stores. Black Mountain was a neat town with many interesting and characteristic stores. J had his lunch at My Father’s Pizza which was another great place to dine out.

First birthday party (Korean Dol) at Maggiano’s Durham NC
May 3rd, 2010J (J Kim Photography Raleigh NC) photographed Aiden’s first birthday party at Maggiano’s (Durham, NC) in April. Koreans give very special meaning to their babies’ first birthday. Therefore, it was a very special celebration (Korean Dol) for Aiden. J was hired to document the entire event at the Maggiano’s which was a high-end Italian restaurant in Durham. The host told me that he wanted to book a bigger space, but other spaces were rented out years advance.
A special cake and cupcakes were prepared by Eunju who was a very gifted cook and baker. The cakes were decorated to match the theme of other decorations in the birthday party. Pastor Cho and pastor Kim were invited to give a birthday service. Many other close friends and relatives were invited, too. Foods were delicious and plenty.

Tears & Joy
First Place – J. KIM
Wow, what a moment! Love, love, love this image. Everyone is crying and wrapped-up in the moment with the bride. Access to a different angle also made this image work as well. I bet the bride will never forget this moment thanks to this photographer.
An exceptionally emotional photo where every face tells a story. The mixed light sources and candidness give the image an overall documentary feel, taking the photo to a whole ‘nother level.

J. Kim Photography (Raleigh NC) won the 1st place award in Tears and Joy Category of WPS Image Competition. It was full of surprise for J to find out that he won two first places in the competition tonight. First Place – J. KIM
This is a really fun photo. It expresses a lot about the couple- hip, urban, ecological, unconventional, and about marriage- a trip into the future (the blown out right is like the dreamy reality of a wedding, with the bike cab going into a more real future). A better framing would make it all the stronger.
Everything has consistent clarity and focus, nothing appears to be contrived, and the image has a lovely range of tones. This one screams “photojourn!” and the theme of “wedding” still resonates strongly. Great job.
